Rural Energy for America Program (REAP)

Program Details:

Basic Eligibility Rules

The Agency provides grants, guaranteed loans, and combined grant and guaranteed loan combinations thru the REAP program to help agricultural producers and rural small businesses reduce energy costs and consumption
and helps meet the Nation’s critical energy needs


Available funding for FY26 (national total)

$50 million for FY26 from farm bill; some funds from Inflation Reduction Act are still available as well for FY26


Land tenure and property right rules

Any entity directly engaged in production of agricultural products where at least 50 percent of their gross income coming from agricultural operations.  Must be located in areas with populations of 50,000 or less.   Agricultural producers and small businesses must have NO outstanding delinquent federal taxes, debt, judgment or debarment.


Practices covered

REAP offers guaranteed loan financing and grant funding to agricultural producers, rural small for-profit businesses, co-ops, and tribal businesses.


Cost share requirements

75 percent match required for grants only

Application period  for FY26 grants expected to open October 1, 2025.  Window for guaranteed loams remains open.
